Revels Wins Golf Leader Award

Revels Wins Golf Leader Award

Turner Revels

In recognition of leadership in the golf industry in North Carolina, as evidenced by long-term service to the industry, Turner Revels, of Fuquay-Varina, NC has been named the 2020 North Carolina Golf Leader, presented by the North Carolina Golf Course Owners Association, recognizing an individual who has displayed leadership in the golf industry as evidenced by long-term business achievement and/or service to the industry.  Revels is CEO of Revels Tractor, a supplier of turf equipment to the golf industry in North Carolina and neighboring states.  He has been lauded for his steadfast support of golf organizations in the region.

“I’m surprised and humbled,” said Revels.  “Industry support has always been important to me, especially golf.  People do notice when you do the right thing!”

Turner’s father, Charles Revels, founded the company in 1961.  He had been a farmer and timberman, and he started the business selling chainsaws and lawn mowers, later farm equipment.  Then in 1969, the company became a John Deere Distributor.  Right after college in 1974, Turner joined his father’s business.  He developed the turf maintenance side of the business.  They officially created a Golf & Turf Division in 1986.  Quite simply, their goal was to provide excellent products and service to the golf industry.  They lived by the Golden Rule, keeping core values every day.

As a youngster, Turner loved baseball, which led him onto the team at Elon College.  The “golf bug” got him at age 16, but his high school did not have a golf team.  It was in his early 20’s before he took it up as a primary pastime.  He loved the fellowship.

Turner has always supported the golf organizations in the region.  First it was the North Carolina Turfgrass Council, when they held conferences in Winston-Salem.  Then it was the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association, helping them establish their Myrtle Beach conference.  He also supported similar organizations in Virginia and more recently, the North Carolina Golf Course Owners Association.  Turner feels it is the responsibility of vendors to support the industry associations.

Turner’s philosophy dates back to core values developed 35 years ago: (1) Treat people the way you want to be treated; (2) Exercise integrity in all actions – develop trust; (3) Be good stewards of the land and people’s property.  He related, “Dad always said to do things right, but more importantly, do the right thing!”

Turner also credits his longtime chief sales officer, Larry Adcock, as well as his son Anthony, who is Operations Manager, handling support.

“This is very special to be recognized by the owners association, the people who make investments in the industry.  It’s an honor, and our goal is for people to know they can trust us,” he said.
