Richard Mandell Golf Architecture: Holes 1-6 at the new Braemar Golf Course in Edina, MN

Braemar Golf Course in Edina, Minnesota

On May 15th this year, the City of Edina, Minnesota will officially unveil its new eighteen-hole Braemar Golf Course on the site of its old twenty-seven hole layout.  Braemar is the first new eighteen-hole municipal golf course to be built in the state of Minnesota since 2003.

Over the next three months, we will be releasing blogs describing each of the individual holes at Braemar.  Each blog will detail my strategic design concepts as well as other details that make each hole a must-play come late spring.  Today, we unveil a general introduction of the project as well as holes one through six.  The first group of holes includes the first pair of a group of par-five holes that will be hard to match anywhere in strategic and topographic variety.  In addition, a strategic creek crossing and towering oaks highlight this first sextuplet that begins with a friendly start:

Hole #1 - Welcome (Par 4 - 369 yards)

Hole #2 - Creek (Par 4 - 417 yards)

Hole #3 - Silver Maple (Par 3 - 162 yards)

Hole #4 - Low - High (Par 5 - 515 yards)

Hole #5 - Cauldron (Par 3 - 175 yards)

Hole #6 - Strath (Par 5 - 519 yards)

The new Braemar golf course has already been awarded an ASGCA Design Excellence Award highlighting not just the golf architecture of the course but the environmental successes achieved there as well, another example of how golf and nature work so well together.  Please enjoy this digital tour of the new Braemar Golf Course.  Next month, we will be releasing holes seven through twelve. In the meantime, visit the Blog on our website at: https://www.golf-architecture.com/blog to see aerial flyovers of each of the first six holes.
